Implement a web site that can be maintained by volunteers.
The Problem / Opportunity: Cornell university Outdoor Odyssey is a student organization run by volunteers with the support of Cornell Outdoor Education. Their web site had limited function, needed a face lift and was difficult to update. The students needed something better.
The Challenge: the website had to be designed and implemented so that the students could be self-sufficient with little technical help from others. This meant that a site built using development tools like Adobe Dreamweaver would not be acceptable.
The Solution: the team decided to use Drupal as the content management solution. There would be some help available from the staff of Cornell Outdoor Education as well. A new site was developed with the Drupal application utilizing functions to simplify maintenance and reduced redundancy of content within the site. Functions were also added to enhance the visitor experience. The theme customized for the site is consistent with Cornell University’s design standards.
The Results: the site was designed, developed and implemented within two weeks of starting the project. The students are thrilled with the new maintenance interface and the appearance of the site. The staff at Cornell Outdoor Education is happy that there is no increase in their own workload. The students will continue to be self-sufficient.
